Making Water Safe to Drink

Today, there is more polluted than pure water in the world. No matter where you go, you must stay hydrated to stay healthy and able to function. Here’s some advice on how to purify the water you find in the outdoors.

  1. As long as we are talking about microbiological contamination and turbidity, yes, I can purify it. If the contamination is chemical pollution, I can purify it, but not with the material that I carry in my pack. Most folks that travel the back country aren't going to face a chemical pollution problem, but some may. It's not common in my part of the country, but we do have some brackish water and sulfurous wells. Maybe I should start carrying my TDS/Conductivity meter with me.
